Making a Difference in our Community, Our Country, and Our World

The West Jordan Rotary Club has been actively engaged this year carrying out the Rotary Theme of “Making a Difference”. Last year started with outgoing President Elise McGee turning over the reins of the club to Kevin McGee (See picture below).

The club, a big sponsor of Rotary Youth Programs sponsored a student from Japan, see the picture of Ko below.

In addition, we were thrilled to have Bruna Mendonca Carnio come back and visit the club 10 years after the club sponsored her. She was pregnant during her visit but has since given birth to a baby boy (see below).

The club did it’s annual fundraiser of flipping burgers for the West Jordan Stampede so we could provide as a club six $1000 scholarships to high school students (2 at Bingham High, 2 at West Jordan High, and 2 at Copper Hills). (See picture below).

In addition, again this year the club distributed 3000 dictionaries to third graders in Utah’s public schools within the club’s boundaries. On a per capita basis, no club does more dictionaries than the West Jordan Rotary club.

The club provided a Sub-for-Santa to a refugee family to assist them at Christmas time purchasing such items as clothing, food, basic household needs, and a used computer to assist them in making a smooth transition into American culture.

The club then took on a backpack attack to provide backpacks and over 120 scientific calculators to the children of Costa Rica. The club is a firm believer that every single child has great potential and who knows what area of the world the next Einstein will come from to make the world a better place for its inhabitants.

The club also purchased and prepared over 100 care package meals for refugee children in the Salt Lake City valley to assist their struggling families to have something to eat over the Easter holiday.

and the work continues.
